Different contests using different scoring formulae and you should definitely take that into account while selecting your teams. We present them in order from simple to complex.

Contest Formulae

Team Winnings

Total Tournament Winnings by your team members in each tournament of a contest.

Team Bracelets

The number of bracelets (first place finishes) by your team in each tournament of a contest. (Tiebreaker: Team Top Three, Team Final Tables, Team Cashes, Team Winnings)

Team Final Tables

You get a point each time one of your team members makes a final table for that tournament. The points awarded are tripled for the Main Event of each series. (Tiebreaker: Team Bracelets then Team Winnings)

Team Top 3

You get a point each time one of your team members makes the top 3 in their tournament. (Tiebreaker: Team Bracelets then Team Final Tables and then Team Winnings)

Team Cashes

You get a point each time one of your team members cash in each tournament of the contest. (Tiebreaker: Team Final Tables, Team Top Three, Team Bracelets, Team Winnings)

Team Points

Several organizations such as Full Tilt Poker, the WSOP and Bluff Magazine have devised point systems to determine "Player of the Year" or "Player of the Series" or such. Some HOHFP contests borrow one of these point systems to determine scoring for a given contest.
